College in the AI Era: What the College Counselor Isn't Telling You

Help Your Child Graduate With a Tech Job Offer โ€” Not Just Student Debt

I help parents of college-bound tech students give their child the exact system to graduate with a job offer โ€” without overpaying for the wrong school, choosing the wrong major, or missing the internship window that closes before senior year.

The Problem

The advice you have been given was built for a market that no longer exists.

The entry-level tech job market has changed. AI is taking over the basic coding tasks that new graduates used to use to get their start. Employers now want to see real proof of work before they will even interview someone. What used to be a beginner role now requires a portfolio, a project, or an internship just to get a call back.

At the same time, more than one in four Computer Science students switch majors before they finish โ€” which costs families between $20,000 and $30,000 in extra tuition and lost time. Most of them switched because nobody helped them pick the right field before they enrolled.

And most families wait until senior year to think about internships โ€” which means they miss the junior year window that, when hit, can lead to a full-time job offer before senior year even starts.

None of this is your fault. The problem is what you were told โ€” and what you were not told.

The Solution

You do not need to understand the technology. You need a plan that works.

College in the AI Era: What the College Counselor Isn't Telling You is a seven-module course built from Dr. Rose Shumba's 20 years of teaching students and watching who gets hired and who does not. Every module has a short video, a parent-student conversation, and a worksheet that gives you one real thing to take away and use.

This course is for you if:
  • Your child is a high school junior or senior who wants a tech career
  • You want to make a smart college decision โ€” not just pick the most familiar school name
  • You are worried about spending $50,000 to $150,000 on a degree that may not lead to a job
  • You do not understand the technology yourself and need a system built for parents, not engineers
  • Every conversation about college with your teenager turns into an argument

This course is not for you if:
  • Your child has already finished their degree
  • You are looking for coding lessons or technical training for your student โ€” this course is for parents making college decisions, not students learning to code
About Dr. Rose Shumba

You are getting help from someone who has spent 20 years inside the system you are trying to figure out โ€” not someone who read about it.

After 20 years as a Computer Science professor and department chair โ€” including running a nationally recognised cybersecurity center โ€” I saw the same thing over and over. The parents who needed my help most were not in my classroom. They were at home, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on decisions they did not have enough information to make well.

The only course for parents of college-bound tech students built by someone who has spent 20 years inside tech programs โ€” watching who graduates with a job and who does not.

Dr. Rose Shumba holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham. She is a professor at Bowie State University, a former Director of an NSA and DHS Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, and the founder of The Tech Academy and Kudzai Edu Group.

She has spent more than 20 years teaching students in tech programs. She has helped her own children into six-figure tech careers. Her work has been featured in The New York Times.

This course is built from everything she learned in those 20 years โ€” put into a system any parent can use, no tech background needed.

What Students and Parents Are Saying

When I started college I had no idea what I was doing. I got through my first two semesters feeling completely lost โ€” I did not know what field I wanted, I did not know what employers were looking for, and nobody around me seemed to have answers. My parents found Dr. Shumba's program and paid for me to join in my sophomore year. That changed everything. By the end of that year I had my direction, I had a project I could show, and I applied for internships with something real to offer. I ended up with three offers. I do not know where I would be without this.

โ€” College sophomore, tech student

I kept telling myself we had time โ€” that we would figure out the school decision, the major, all of it when we got there. Dr. Shumba's course showed me how much I did not know I did not know. We used the scorecard on three schools we were seriously considering. One of them failed on two of the five signals. We would never have caught that on our own. My daughter starts next fall with a clear direction and a plan. That is worth more than I can put into words.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to understand technology to use this course?+
No. This course is for parents. The tools โ€” the scorecard, the matrix, the planner โ€” are built so any parent can use them with their child in one sitting. No tech background needed.
My child does not know what tech field they want. Is this course still useful?+
Yes โ€” this is exactly what Module 2 is for. We pick one main direction and one backup, not a final answer. There is no pressure to decide everything right now.
My child is already a senior. Is it too late?+
It is not too late. Module 6 has a specific 90-day plan for students in their last year without internship experience. Starting now is always better than waiting.
How long does the course take to complete?+
Most families finish one module every two to three days. The whole course takes two to three weeks at a comfortable pace.
Is the course self-paced?+
Yes. You get access immediately and go at your own speed.

Your child's junior year internship window opens in August. The families already in front of it did not start in August.

They started now.
